Robert Esnault-Pelterie invented the aileron in 1905 and the broomstick in 1906. He innovated again by creating a metal structure using welded steel tubes and a star-shaped front motor. The wings are covered and varnished. Another innovation is the oleopneumatic landing gear that he alone possessed. as well as the star engine.
