The current Polynesian dances have softened and given up the exacerbation of the gestures and facial expressions reported by the first European observers. The sense of rhythm and the rapidity of the flapping of hands and feet remain, but the contortions of the mouth, tongue and eyes have given way to a greater aesthetic research.
