The Inuit families' size is generally greater than that of Canadian families. In 2006, 28% of young Inuit children and 31% of those residing in Inuit Nunaat lived in a family of at least 4 children. The fertility rate of 3.4 children per woman over the 1996-2001 period is higher for Inuit women than for other Canadian women (1.5 child per woman). Inuit children are also raised by younger parents : in 2006, 26% of Inuit children under 6 had a mother aged 15 to 24 compared to 8% of non-Aboriginal children.
