Cutting snow blocks
1
0
To obtain fresh water on an expedition, this Inuk woman is cutting a block of snow to the size of her kettle. It will be liquefied by heating on a portable stove and bacteria-freed by boiling. The cold of the unprocessed snow would parasitize the internal body heat and disrupt the digestive system. Pure snow also brings a very demineralized water which must be remineralized by adding salt, tea or soup.
