Crystal centrifuging

The glassblower’s tools are simple (rods, pallets, tongs, scissors). It is his dexterity and experience that lead to a perfect result. When the glassblower blows into his cane leaning on a bench, he rotates it at the same time as he tilts it. The bubble lengthens under the effect of its mass, this is vertical centrifugation. The same movement, when done flat, expands the bubble, which is called horizontal centrifuging. Each movement depends on the desired end result (decanter, vase, cup). The blower then uses a “mouillette”, a simple folded and moistened newspaper, and pliers to shape the neck of the decanters.
