From 1958 to 1968, Marc Chagall illuminated Metz Cathedral with the help of glassmakers Charles Marq and Brigitte Simon. On the glass roofs of the northern ambulatory, he notably produced The Struggle of Jacob and the Angel, strangely entwined, and Jacob's Dream. The colors are, as usual, coarse in the artist's compositions. His language is sometimes obscure, and the nudity of the angels shocked numerous observers.
