The banded coral shrimp has hairy claws covered with short spines with alternating red and white bands. Its ambulatory legs and body are translucent with junctions tinged with blue. It lives perched on the openings of crevices of coral reefs up to 147ft (45m) deep and signals its presence to the fish to be dewormed by shaking its antennae.
