Dug by the Tarn

The Tarn emerges at 5,167 ft (1,575 m) in the granite slopes of Mont Lozère. Its encounter with the limestone rocks of the Grands Causses caused slow erosion 20 million years ago. This phenomenon formed a 33 miles (53 km) canyon between Quézac (Causse Méjean) and Le Rozier (Causse de Sauveterre). With peaks up to 1,970 ft (600 m), the Gorges du Tarn are among the highest in Occitania. The Tarn reaches its lowest point in the canyon.
