Toxic coral crab

Trapezia tigrina is a coral crab of the Trapeziidae family. It is a symbiont of cnidarians, often associated with Pocillopora corals. Most toxic crabs have a bright-colored carapace with a very decorative pattern and live in shallow waters or on coral reefs. They contain powerful neurotoxins responsible for severe digestive, neurological or cardio-respiratory disorders. They are not toxic on their own but ingest toxin-producing planktonic microorganisms.
