The greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is the symbol of the Camargue region. The research institute of La Tour du Valat aims at monitoring and preserving these birds, only observable in the wild in the area. Greater flamingos only mate with an individual the same age and only remain as a couple for a year after the female has laid an egg. The father and mother take care of their offspring during its first year before going their separate ways and searching for a new partner. Thus begins the process of a new courtship, particularly spectacular in the greater flamingo.
