The master glassmaker is cutting with scissors the molten glass that he is in the process of adding to an already formed and cooled glass ball. His gesture must determine precisely the quantity of glass necessary for the addition he wishes to make. When cooling, the molten glass that the glassmaker took from the furnace with a pontil, a long solid iron rod, will stick to the cold glass.
