Maré is the second island and commune of the Loyalty Islands - after Lifou - by its area and population. Formed of a central plain constituted by the former lagoon, it is bordered on its west coast by magnificent beaches between Nécé and Eni while its east coast has many cliffs of coral limestone in particular between Shabadran and Patho to the south or between La Roche and Cap Coster to the north.
