Coral caves: vestiges of Rurutu's strange story

Millions of years ago, the undersea volcano Mac Donald propelled the island of Rurutu out of the water. Then, the ladder slowly collapsed. This allowed the emergence of a coral reef around it. This was before a second volcanic eruption that raised the island 80 above the sea level. Its coral reef then transformed in coastal cliffs when were dug caves with astonishing limestone caves.
