Natura 2000 is dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity on the sites it supervises. Among other things, it monitors human activities to preserve the local biosphere from possible repercussions. The program follows the directives of the European Union concerning birds, habitats, fauna, and flora. Madine Lake and its surroundings were included in Natura 2000 in 2003 due to the 250 observable bird species and 40 mammals classes they shelter.
