The mission of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) is to preserve the memory of the sacrifices and exploits of the United States Military, wherever they served, by constructing and maintaining American War Cemeteries and Memorials abroad. The information centre for visitors of the Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer was inaugurated on 6 June 2007, marking the 63rd anniversary of the Normandy landings. The centre’s permanent exhibition also aims to personify the stories of these Americans who fell for the liberation of Europe. Its purpose is to make visitors aware that under all these graves lie singular stories, with sometimes intertwined destinies.
