Concrete unlike any other

The Louis Vuitton Foundation is composed of several blocks that are partially or completely covered by glass and metal sails. The blocks are all covered with white Ductal panels, which earned the building its nickname of “iceberg”. Ductal is an ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced concrete developed by the trio Bouygues, Lafarge, and Rhodia since 1994. It is the use of organic or metallic fibres (2 to 4%) that increases its mechanical performance. Ductal is therefore more resistant to wear and tear and fire, and is more watertight than conventional concrete. Its resistance to impact and compression is also three times higher.
