The first synthetic material discovered by man, glass transmits, refracts, and reflects light. Transparent, translucent or opaque, shiny or mat, it can be adorned with colors. They are obtained by adding chemical dyes (oxides or metal salts) during glass melting. The colors' tone and intensity depend on the nature and quantity of dyes as well as the sodium or potassium composition of the glass.
