Colored clays used since prehistoric times
0
0
Colored clay, wrongly called ocher, is associated in nature with sand that can represent up to 90% of the raw rock. Once this sand was removed by washing and decanting, the clays constituted highly sought-after natural dyes used to color paints, mortars, or cement before the invention of chemical substitutes. Ochres were already used by men in rock paintings during prehistoric times.
