Saint Martin’s collegial church

A room in the Unterlinden Museum is dedicated to the collegiate church of Saint-Martin in Colmar. Built between 1235 and 1365, the building is in pure Alsatian Gothic style. The originals of the statues which adorned the exterior of the Colmar building are now on display in the museum and allow us to recognise the influences of the Strasbourg and Freiburg im Breisgau workshops. The tombstone of Philippe Hunolt de Limperg (died in 1358), a member of an old and influential Colmar family, is attached to the wall of the room and bears witness to the interior decoration of the collegiate church. The sober engraved effigy of the priest is surrounded by a Latin inscription.
