Indonesia is the 3rd or 4th largest coffee producer behind Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia. Its culture was developed in Java and Sumatra by the Dutch settlers. Kopi Luwak, produced from coffee cherries found in the excrements of luwaks (palm-tongued civets), has made its reputation. Sold up to $100 a cup in New York, it is now supplanted by the more equitable Thai Black Ivory, made from elephant droppings.
