Honduras has become the leading producer of coffee in Central America, thanks in particular to the more than 100,000 small producers who represent a third of the country's active population. The cultivation of coffee has replaced that of bananas at the top of the country's agricultural resources and occupies 60% of the agricultural land. The best plantations are organic and located over 4,921ft (1,500m) above sea level.
