Coconut crab and hermit crab
Despite its name, the coconut crab (Birgus latro) is closer to hermit crabs than to crabs. These two species of the Paguroidea superfamily have a common ancestor and split between -2.6 and -5.3 million years ago. The adult coconut crab then abandoned all artificial protection and hardened its abdomen by adding layers of chitin, only the juveniles continue to use the shells of gastropods or even broken coconuts to protect their soft abdomen.
