It is the humid climate, first temperate then tropical but without great temperature variations, of New Caledonia which favored the good preservation and the weak evolution of its Gondwanian type vegetation. On the other lands resulting from the fragmentation of the Gondwana super continent, it did not survive the increasing drought (Australia) or was largely decimated by the glaciations (New Zealand).
