The ocher deposit of the Pays d'Apt stretches over a 15.5 mi (25 km) strip from west to east, between the villages of Roussillon and Gignac via Rustrel. Widely exploited during the golden era of the ocher production between 1880 and 1930, it is today a listed site under the law of May 2nd, 1930 on natural heritages where nature has regained its rights and which is constantly evolving under the effect of erosion. The entire ocher massif of the Pays d'Apt is now aiming for the Grand Site de France label to preserve and share its natural and industrial heritage.
