Cité Vauban, its doors and its Collegiate Church

The fortified part of Briançon called 'Cité Vauban' corresponds to the upper town. It forms a citadel accessible by several gates : the Embrun gate, the Pignerol gate, the Dauphine gate and the Durance gate. The ramparts of the upper town are dominated by the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Nicolas, the imposing volume of which reflects the Catholic policy of Louis XIV.
