Cité Vauban is the only protected sector (Malraux law) of Hautes-Alpes out of the seven of the South Region. It plays a preponderant role in the city's tourist policy. To revitalize this historic center of Briançon, the municipality has set up the 'Cité des Arts' project which gives life through art to the disused premises of the old town by offering permanent artistic activities year round.
