Cicada and symbols

Associated with the Provençal and Mediterranean folklore, the cicada is the summer insect par excellence which evokes recklessness since Aesop's fable about the cicada and the ant later rewritten and popularized by Jean de la Fontaine. Widely distributed by the ceramist Louis Sicard, whose taken over and copied productions have invaded the souvenir shops, it is for the Chinese - who place a jade cicada in the mouths of the dead - a symbol of eternal life and resurrection in the afterlife.
