Once the false bell is formed – made of clay covered with white wax – red wax decorations are applied. They are first moulded, by hand, in moulds made of boxwood, plaster or elastomer. The inscriptions and decorations are then glued onto the false bell and embossed on it. There is no rule concerning these inscriptions, which may mention a patron saint, a coat of arms, or foliage. The name of the bell may be added, as well as the name of the donor, the pope's, or the bishop's.
