The Chinese motherwort, Leonurus japonicus, is a herbaceous flowering plant native to Asia of the Lamiaceae family. Its distribution has widely spread to tropical zones. It is an erect, annual perennial plant growing to 4.9ft (150cm) tall from a tuberous rootstock. It is considered to be one of the 50 fundamental herbs in Chinese herbalism and is often prescribed for use on its own and not in a mixture with other plants.
