The Auxois draft horse is considered an heritage of the Burgundy region. This horse with a Rouanne, Bay, Aubère or Chestnut coat is a rustic, docile and courageous horse which requires little maintenance and is a descendant of the Solutré horse. Less and less used in the countryside, it is the most endangered french draft breed with just over a hundred births each spring. Its breeding ground is located around the Cluny stud farm, an area with fertile and nutritious pastures which contribute to its large size.
