On the eastern coast of Corsica, the Bay of Fautea is overlooked by cork oak hills which reach around 100 m (328 ft) above sea level. In the 1960s, the cork industry was active. Cork was used for producing bottle stoppers or as insulation. Known for their fire resistance, these trees prove to be an effective solution in fire-prone regions like Corsica.
