Cheetahs are not armed to fight against lions or other predators. Indeed their respiratory system has developed at the expense of the size of their teeth, their enlarged nostrils not leaving enough space for the implantation of the roots of a strong dentition. Their teeth are therefore much smaller than those of other competing carnivores. Moreover, cheetahs will prefer to flee and abandon their prey than to risk a confrontation.
