Listed as a Historical Monument since 1928, the Grimaldi castle and its square tower have housed a museum dedicated to Pablo Picasso since December 1966. Mainly erected in the 15th and 16th centuries, the building hosted from September to November 1946 the workshop of the famous painter who left there 23 paintings, 44 drawings, and 78 ceramics for the town of Antibes. A bishops' residence until 1385, the castle was then occupied by the Monegascan family who gave it its name. It later became the house of the King's governor, a town hall in 1792, and a barracks in 1820.
