Château de St Germain en Laye

Le château de Saint Germain en Laye a servi de résidence royale depuis Louis VI le Gros, au XIIe siècle. De nombreux édits royaux ou traités y ont été signés, jusqu'au traité de 1919 qui mit officiellement fin à la guerre avec l'Autriche.
En 1638, Louis XIV est né à Saint Germain en Laye et y a passé, à partir de 1666, l'essentiel des premières années de son règne personnel, avant son installation à Versailles en 1682.
Pendant une période, le château a été délaissé, une partie a été rasé, une autre est devenue un pénitencier militaire. En triste état et promis à la destruction, il a été sauvé grâce à la création, par Napoléon III, d'un musée d'archéologie qui y est jusqu’à nos jours.
