Hunted for the inside of his stomach
The Old World porcupine is a terrestrial rodent that lives primarily in Asia. It is one of the most hunted species in the world. Poachers covet this species for the bezoar. A bezoar is the name given to the mass of undigested food that accumulates in the intestines of some porcupines. This bezoar is recovered by poachers then kept intact or reduced to powder, and finally used in certain traditional medicines to fight against diabetes or cancer. No scientific study has proven its effectiveness.
