The white rhinoceros differs from the black one by its large pointed ears, its wide and shortened snout and a characteristic protuberance on its neck. The fact that it grazes grass, while the black rhinoceros feeds on leaves and young tree shoots, allows both species to coexist within the same ecosystem. Like many other African herbivores, it is often associated with oxpeckers, that feed on their parasites.
