Cerisier du Japon et son Tapis de Pétales

Communément appelé Sakura au Japon, le cerisier à fleurs (Prunus serrulata) est le plus connu et de loin le plus répandu des cerisiers à fleurs du Japon. Il n'atteint que très rarement la dizaine de mètres, particulièrement s'il est taillé de manière régulière. Son port est largement étalé avec une cime aplatie et un tronc dont l'écorce marron foncé est lisse.
Sa floraison marque le retour du printemps.
