The Ribeauvillé forest, near Riquewirh, shelters century-old trees of impressive dimensions. The ONF (National Forests Office) discovered a 198 ft (60.30 m) Douglas fir in 2001. These woods are also home to a sequoia 187 ft (57 m) tall. It is the largest in Europe. Among the trees, rocks composed of gneiss and granite scatter. The Celts already roamed among them and left traces of their presence.
