A wine-centered village for centuries

Exclusively a wine-growing place, Riquewihr was fortified at the end of the 13th century, as evidenced by its double enclosure and its belfry tower. Today the village is home to a rich collection of houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. All are testament to wine-growing prosperity that comes back to life each autumn. Bins of grapes arrive in the interior courtyards of the traditional half-timbered houses until November. Riquewihr's AOC wines are renowned, particularly those of Schoenenbourg's hillside.
