Central Chain, the climatic barrier of Grande-Terre
0
0
The south-east/north-west axis of the Central Chain of Grande-Terre constitutes a real climatic barrier to the prevailing winds by forming a continuous obstacle over the entire length of the island. The narrower East Coast is more exposed and wetter, its vegetation is denser. The drier West Coast is made up of wild plains covered with savannah transforming into a sclerophyllous forest while gradually rising towards the chain.
