To the south of the village of Rustrel in the Vaucluse department is the Ubac, a low-altitude massif (1,804 ft / 550 m) that contains the ocher quarries intensely exploited from 1880 until the 1950s. They are accessible to the public today through the paths of the Provençal Colorado redeveloped in 2009. The water from the Doa stream, which flows in its center, was formerly used for washing the ochres as it allowed separating the sand and the pigments.
