El carricero tordal (Acrocephalus arundinaceus) es un ave de hábitos migratorios perteneciente a la familia Acrocephalidae, dentro del orden de los paseriformes.3 Habita en zonas húmedas, ríos y lagos de Europa, África y Asia.
Con sus 18,5 cm de longitud, es la especie europea de silvído palustre de mayor envergadura.3 El pico es más largo y robusto que el de las restantes especies europeas. La tonalidad del plumaje es marrón oscura en la parte superior y clara en la inferior.
Su distribución mundial como reproductor es eminentemente europea, y en este continente aparece bien repartido por latitudes templadas y cálidas. También se localiza, de forma más puntual y fragmentada, en Oriente Medio y el noroeste de África. Se reconocen dos subespecies.
Vive en zonas de vegetación palustre de marismas y bordes de ríos, arroyos y canales. Se asienta en masas de carrizos, juncos, espadañas, masiegas y, en menor medida, en formaciones arbustivas ribereñas. Ocupa zonas bajas, aunque llega a alcanzar los 1.000 metros de altitud. Es un av eminentemente insectivora. Ocasionalmente incluye materia vegetal diversa (frutos, semillas, etc.)
