Although the parrot fish liveries vary according to their maturity and sex changes, making it difficult to identify the species, all of them share two obvious physical characteristics : the robustness of their beaks resulting from the fusion of their jaws and teeth and the brightness (blue, green) of the males. Their diurnal activity is to crisscross their territory scraping the reef surface for food.
