Widely spread over the African continent, southern Sahara, the Cape serotine bat roosts during the day under the roofs, in natural tree holes or under some trees leaves. With an average size of 1,2in (3,2cm), females are usually larger than males. Active at night, they especially feed on beetles, on moths and flies. The species is known to store sperm during winter, and fertilization takes places few months after mating, at the end of the winter.
