The Grand Palais closed its doors in March 2021 for an in-depth renovation lasting several years. The aim is to prepare the building to host the taekwondo and fencing events of the 2024 Olympic Games. The Grand Palais must be brought up to international museum standards and allow access for the disabled. The work aims to restore the original volumes, circulation, decorations and interior lighting. The capacity of the nave will be doubled to 11,000 people. The Palais de la Découverte, which opened in 1937 in the west wing of the Grand Palais, will be modernised and devoted to the world of science.
