Northern Corsica, an island into an island juts out into the sea. Cap Corse is a peninsula which covers 400 m², just 200 km (124 mi) from France’s coastlines. It is 40 km long (25 mi) and 15 km (9 mi) wide.
In the 16th century, a third of all Genoese towers which were built in Corsica to fight the Barbary pirates were erected on the 92 km (57 mi) coastline of Cap Corse.
