At the southern tip of the Gulf of Valinco, 8mi (13km) south of Propriano, is the small bay of Campomoro, 'Camp des Maures'. It is surmounted by the Tower of Campomoro built in 1586 by the Genoese. It is the highest Corsican tower with 49ft (15m). It is surrounded by a star fortification wall. Restored in 1986, it belongs to the Littoral Conservatory and houses a permanent exhibition tracing the history of Genoese towers and Barbary invasions in Corsica.
