Under the influence of Earth’s rotation, winds, sea currents and shocks with drifting icebergs, the sea ice moves, breaks, compresses. When two ice plates collide, compression ridges forms and can reach up to 10 meters high. Compression ridges allow to establish camps sheltered from the wind.
