Withdrawn behind its Citadel until the end of the 18th century and its annexion by France in 1796, Calvi has since opened up to tourism. In summer, the tourist wave multiplies the population of the city by eight. They come to enjoy its beautiful gulf lined with pine forests and fine sand and the walks on the hinterland heights of Balagne, Giussani and Ostriconi.
