The hippopotamus comes out of water at night to feed on grass. Its digestive system being very poor, it must eat up to 286lbs (130kg) daily.
According to a bushman legend, the hippopotamus was created to stay on land, but it absolutely wanted to be in water. Because of the imposing size of the animal, the creator was not agree. He was afraid that it would eat all the fish. The hippopotamus grunted so loudly that the creator finally accepted, but forbade it to eat fish. That's why, after spending the day in the water, the hippopotamus comes on land to defecate and show the creator that there is no fish bone in his excrements.
